        Campaigning for a "model" election at Lake Charles high school with special programs and political rallies drew near a close Friday afternoon.
        The election will be held Monday and Tuesday. The annual event is sponsored by the four civics classes taught by Miss Rachael Norgress.

        Rallies have featured a conga line around the campus, a dance in the gym and a decorated car in various parades.

Billie Jean Sperling

        SILSBEE, Texas Funeral services for Billie Jean Sperling, 66, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, in Farmer Funeral Home.
        Burial will be at 5 p.m. Friday in Goos Cemetery in Lake Charles.
        Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today.
        Mrs. Sperling died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, in a Beaumont, Texas, hospital.
        A native of Lake Charles, she had lived in Silsbee for the past 23 years. She was a homemaker.
        Survivors include two brothers, Walter S. Goos and Jerry W. Goos, both of Lake Charles; and one sister, Mary Lynne Lafargue of Alexandria.
